For many folks, a car’s engine is its most important part. A mechanical masterpiece. A glorious combination of shafts and pistons and rods sloshing about in a bunch of oil and gas to achieve the miracle of combustion-based momentum. The heart of the beast.

But let’s face it, some engines are better to look at than others. In some cars, they’re concealed entirely beneath a plastic cover. In others, a messy array of vacuum-line spaghetti is on display. But, in some cases, someone at the automaker in question decides to make the engine a part of the car’s styling – presumably to incite some drool-factor when the hood is open, and dress up their engineering efforts to be put on full display when the hood is opened.

So, here’s a look at some machines with great-looking engine bays for a variety of tastes.
