If watching the movies on Netlfix or collecting Fast and the Furious Hot Wheels models isn’t doing enough to whet your F & F appetite in the days leading up to the April 3 release of Furious 7, then the folks over at Playground Games may have just what the doctor ordered.
For the uninitiated, Playground is responsible for two versions of the Forza Horizon video game series on Xbox 360 and Xbox One; unlike the circuit-based Forza Motorsport series, Horizon has players racing through an open world, smashing through fences, signposts, park benches and whatever else stands between them and the finish line.
It’s the perfect platform for turning a movie that features more car chases and illegal street racing than you can shake a Hurst shifter at. In that light, the folks behind Forza have partnered up with Universal Studios to release Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious, a free – yes you read that right – completely standalone game for Xbox 360 and Xbox One (you’re not required to own FH2 to play, just one of the two consoles and an Xbox Live account). Players will be challenged to steal a number of cars for Tej Parker, voiced by Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges, who plays the character in the films themselves.
Eleven new cars have been added to the game, ranging from supercars to armoured Jeeps (yes, Dom’s Dodge Charger R/T has made the cut) all with designs inspired by the cars from Furious 7.
Players will have to undergo a number of challenges in order to get the job done; not sure whether or not you’ll have to drive them off a cargo plane, but even if I did know, you wouldn’t want me spoiling the surprise here, would you?
If you want to virtually play the stunt driver in your own F & F film, however, you had better act fast; it will only be downloadable for free from the Xbox store until April 10; the regular price is $9.99.
