The Ferrari 488 represents the latest entry in a phenomenon that occurs about every three years: the release of a mid-engine, V8-powered Ferrari supercar; the brand’s bread-and-butter, as it were.

Sure, the big, V12 or V8 turbo flagship Ferraris made more power, were more bespoke and might have adorned more bedroom walls, but the shriek of a naturally-aspirated, high-revving Ferrari V8 is a motoring sound that’s as classic as they come.
