Ducati Takes Aim at Harley-Davidson

Ducati has taken its biggest shot ever at the cruiser market with the unveiling of the all-new XDiavel ahead of EICMA 2016. With feet-forward controls and an unmistakeable cruiser style the XDiavel takes the Diavel even further into traditional cruiser territory - including a brand-first belt drive.

Ducati boasts that the XDiavel does "what cruisers don't" - accelerate, brake and lean. With a lean angle of 40-degrees the XDiavel is uncommonly sporty for the segment while still stepping up in the straight-line hero stakes. The 1,262 cc engine is good for 95 lb-ft of torque, most of which is available from 2,100 rpm. The XDiavel also takes advantage of MotoGP software to deliver riders DPL - Ducati Power Launch. The system allows full-throttle acceleration at the dragstrip - adding racing purpose to this more relaxed of Ducati models.

XDiavel will come standard with adjustable footpegs, with a combination of five available seats and different handlebar options giving up to 60 different riding positions.

The feet-forward XDiavel was among a set of departures for the Italian marque demonstrated at Ducati's live-streamed world premier, which also saw us introduced to a new endurance-focused Multistrada, the Multistrada 1200 Enduro.

The Enduro will feature a 30L fuel tank, Vehicle Hold Control for effortless uphill starts on loose surfaces, additional skid plates and protective paneling plus a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel. The 'strada will weigh in at 234 kg before fuel.

Two new Scramblers were added to the family the Flat Track Pro and the Sixty2. The Ducati Scrambler Sixty2 will feature a 400 cc engine good for 41 hp mounted in a smaller, 167 kg chassis.

As predicted, the video launch also featured the new 959 Panigale with its larger, 157 hp/79 lb-ft engine.

Ducati's MotoGP stars Andrea Dovizioso and Andrea Iannone unveiled the new 939 HyperMotard and HyperStrada models, with a boost in power to 113 hp and 72 lb-ft of torque.

More of the Ducati lineup will be unveiled in December when the brand reveals the result of its partnership with Italia Independent in producing a seventh Scrambler variant.
