Transport Canada has added a number of vehicles to its list of those affected by the Takata airbag recall, from brands like Acura, Honda, Audi, Volkswagen, Saturn, and Saab.
Honda makes the most significant contribution this time around, adding more than 269,000 Honda and Acura models to the list.
Three separate recalls bring more than 185,000 Volkswagen and Audi cars and crossovers to the list, including the Tiguan and Q5; A5, Golf and Jetta; and the A4 and Passat.
Finally, defunct brands Saturn and Saab come back from the scrapyard so that their 9-3, 9-5, and Astra models can make an appearance.
In other recall news, Honda is recalling more than 10,000 examples of its new Civic fitted with the 2.0L engine. Some engines may be missing a metal clip, which could lead to major mechanical failure.
Owners of two very different models are being notified that their vehicles may not meet Canada's safety standard for "theft and rollaway protection." Four examples of the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra may fail to warn the driver when the door is opened with the key still in the ignition; and in 2,247 Scion FR-S models with the automatic transmission, the ignition/shifter interlock sensor may not have been connector during the pre-delivery process, which would allow the key to removed with the shifter in a position other than "park." (These sensors are disconnected during rail transport to prevent damage to the transmission.)
Another pair of vehicles is affected by a common recall. In this case, it's the Kia Forte and Hyundai Tucson, both from the 2011 model year, which may have improperly manufactured automatic transmission cooler hoses that could leak, and cause abnormal transmission behaviour.
In nearly 7,000 Toyota and Lexus SUVs and pickups, a miscalibrated rollover sensor could cause the side curtain airbags to deploy when no rollover is imminent.
An airbag module fault could cause a similar situation in a number of 2009 VW Routan minivans, and a larger number of Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country, and Dodge Journey models.
Nearly 6,000 Subaru Tribeca crossovers have hood latches that could fail and allow the hood to fly open while the car is being driven.
Finally, 421 examples of the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickups may experience a sudden loss of power steering assist due to a poor electrical connection.
