Mitsui High-Tec opens first North American factory in Brantford, Ontario

The Ontario government today announced a $2 million investment that has brought Japanese company Mitsui High-Tec's first North American production facility to Brantford.

Mitsui High-Tec specializes in electric vehicle motor components; the factory's production lines will spin up early next year and begin supplying electric and hybrid vehicle motor cores to auto manufacturing facilities in the US, with a longer-term plan to increase production to supply Ontario-based factories.

This latest announcement comes weeks after the reveal of a $5 million plan to help small auto parts manufacturers become more competitive.

The Mitsui factory will initially employ 48 "highly-skilled" workers and "strengthen the province's auto supply chain." This new factory comes as part of Ontario's plan to make it easier for Ontarians to buy electric vehicles, and to "foster innovation and investment in Ontario's auto sector."
