It is still six months away, but it is now anticipated that Porsche will reveal the second-generation Panamera sedan at the Paris auto show at the end of September. Automotive News Europe yesterday quoted company sources as having leaked the information.
The next Panamera is expected to be lighter and more fuel efficient, and will be based on Volkswagen Group's new MSB platform (Modularer Standardantrieb-Baukasten, or Modular Standard Platform) which is also likely to birth new models from Bentley and possibly Bugatti or Lamborghini (but probably not Audi, who were not involved in development of the platform). The platform uses high strength steel, aluminum, and carbon fibre is rumoured as well, to help minimize weight and improve strength.
A Porsche spokesperson also confirmed that Shooting Brake Panamera prototypes exist, which might just be the Porsche wagon people are looking for. Global Panamera sales have fallen 40 percent since a high of 29,030 in 2012, and the shooting brake is seen as a possible way to improve sales in wagon-hungry Europe.
The second-gen Panamera is expected to go on sale in Europe first, shortly after the Paris debut, with North America and China following soon after in early 2017.
