Subaru has recalled 2016 Legacy and Outback models for a steering column flaw that could cause a loss of steering control.
The Transport Canada notice, which covers nearly 3,500 cars, says steering column components in these cars "may not have been manufactured to specification and may not engage properly." Subaru and Transport Canada are advising owners against driving the cars until a dealer has inspected the steering column, and replaced it, if necessary.
British SUV builder Land Rover is recalling about 2,500 examples of its Discovery Sport from the 2015 and 2016 model years. At issue are rear license plate light housings that could fall out and "fail to illuminate the plate" according to the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS).
The Swedish safety obsessives at Volvo are asking the owners of 2,600 new XC90 crossovers to bring their vehicles to a dealer to have the sunroof controls reprogrammed. Transport Canada says the switch is "susceptible to inadvertent actuation" that could activate the sunroof's auto-close function.
Maserati says that nearly 900 of its Ghibli and Quattroporte models may have rear tie rod bolts that weren't tightened properly during vehicle assembly and could come loose while the car is being driven. Dealers will inspect these bolts and make any necessary repairs.
Fifty-six examples of the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu have electronic brake control modules with a faulty memory chip that could cause the deactivation of the car's anti-lock braking and stability control systems. Transport Canada reassures Malibu owners that such a fault will not affect the car's stopping ability. Dealers will replace the brake module in the affected cars.
The owners of 32 Infiniti Q70L long-wheelbase models will receive new compliance labels (the one on the inside of the driver's door frame) in the mail to replace ones showing the wrong gross axle and vehicle weight ratings (GAWR and GVWR). Owners not comfortable applying the new labels themselves can take their cars into an Infiniti dealer to have them affixed.
In Australia, diesel-powered versions of the 2010 Holden Cruze (a car that was sold here as a Chevrolet) have been recalled for an engine wiring connector that could corrode and cause the engine to stall. No official recall has been issued for North American models, but we suspect one will come; we'll let you know when it does.
Finally, Transport Canada has issued an official notice for a Dodge Journey recall we told you about last week. Nearly 190,000 examples of the crossover sold between 2009 and 2016 have a power steering hose that could rupture upon startup in cold weather, resulting in a loss of steering assist. Dealers will replace the faulty hose with a redesigned part.
