Ford has released updates and pricing for the 2017 Fusion, and hidden in there is some big news in the new 2.7L EcoBoost V6–powered Fusion V6 Sport. All 2017 Fusion models get new front fascias, revised interior trim, and some big upgrades to the infotainment system.
The new nose adds revised fog-lights and a slightly more aggressive–looking center strip and lower grille. The Sport gets a black mesh grille and the new top-luxury Platinum trim gets a chrome version of the same. The shift lever is now a shift knob, and access to the cupholders has been improved as a result. Sync3 replaces MyFordTouch and adds Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, 4G LTE, and a few other apps. Engine choices are largely unchanged, with a 2.5L four-cylinder alongside 1.5L and 2.0L EcoBoost turbocharged fours. The new engine is the 2.7L Ecoboost V6 on Sport models making a massive 380 lb-ft and 325 hp. All get a six-speed automatic.
There are now five trim levels for the gas-powered Fusion. The base S starts at $23,188 and gets 16-inch alloys and a backup camera. SE is $25,088 and adds power seats, 17-inch wheels. The Titanium trim ($33,988) used to be the top trim and gets the 2.0L Ecoboost, all-wheel drive, heated front seats and more, but for 2017 you can step up to Platinum ($41,788) and get navigation, heated and cooled seats, premium leather interior, and radar cruise.
But the trim you really want is a step sideways from the Platinum. The new Sport trim gets 325 hp, 380 lb-ft of torque, all-wheel drive, and a revised suspension for better handling. We won't drive it until next month but Ford's sounding very ambitious, comparing it to BMW 535i and Audi A6 3.0T. The Sport starts at $41,788 and in addition to the engine has 19-inch wheels, paddle shifters, and a full active-safety suite including self-parking and radar cruise control.
Fusion Hybrid is available in S ($28,388), SE ($29,088), Titanium ($34,488) and Platinum (which is actually less than the gas Platinum at $41,488, but doesn't have all-wheel drive). The plug-in hybrid Energi is available in SE ($34,588), Titanium ($36,788) and Platinum ($44,588).
The 2017 Fusion is rolling out to dealers now, and the Sport should arrive later this summer.
