Rusty Springs Prompt Hyundai to Recall Elantra, Sonata and Santa Fe

More than 55,000 owners of 2010 and 2011 Hyundai models are being asked to take their cars back to the dealer to have corrosion-prone front springs replace.

In 2011 models of the Elantra and Sonata sedans and 2010 and 2011 Santa Fe crossovers, the springs could rust and fail, potentially damaging front tires and causing a loss of vehicle control. In the case of of the Elantra and Sonata, this is the second such recall; vehicles repaired under that previous campaign will be inspected and repaired again.

Hyundai has recalled a number of its models over the years for rusty suspension components, and its Kia subsidiary recently recalled the Sedona minivan for corroded control arms.
