The Subaru BRZ's sibling, the FR-&S, has moved from the Scion camp back to Toyota, and with it is a new name, a new nose, and more power. The BRZ isn't getting left out and while it's not getting a name change, it is getting some restyling, some new features, and some more power under the hood.
The 2017 BRZ keeps the 2.0L boxer four-cylinder it's known for but gets a new intake and a new exhaust that boost power in the manual transmission cars to 205 hp and 156 lb-ft. Automatics are unchanged. There are also new valves, cams, and cylinder heads to help increase economy. Manual transmissions also get a lower final drive and standard limited slip differential. While they were at it, Subaru made hill start assist standard as well.
The new nose has a more prominent impact area and larger intakes to either side. There is also a longer lip than before. The fender vent has also become body colour with a black insert. LED headlights and DRLs are now standard.
Inside there is a new leather steering wheel with a firmer steering feel and revised audio controls. The car also gets a rear-view camera. Sport-Tech gets LED fog lights, BRZ embroidered seatbacks and new materials on the instrument and door panels. An updated 4.2-inch dash display is available on the Sport-Tech trim only. It has G-meter, throttle position, braking force, steering angle and engine vital signs.
There are two trims and two transmission choices. BRZ and BRZ Sport-Tech, both with a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
