In a bid to bolster its aspirations to become a premium SUV brand, Jeep has added a new top-end Overland trim to its compact Cherokee lineup. Sharing its name with the plushest Grand Cherokee trim, the Cherokee Overland builds on the Limited model and adds upscale features.
For a starting price of $39,895, those extras include a 12-way power front passenger seat with four-way lumbar, nine-speaker premium sound system, Bi-xenon headlights, blind spot monitor with rear cross path detection, heated leather and wood-trimmed steering wheel, leather-wrapped dash, rear park assist, Berber floor mats, heated and ventilated front seats in premium leather and the Uconnect 8.4 infotainment system with navigation.
Other upgrades include acoustic windshield and front door glass and extra body insulation to reduce interior noise, body-coloured front and rear fascias, wheel flares, sill mouldings and door cladding, cornering fog lights and bright door sill plates.
That entry tag includes FWD and the 2.4L four-cylinder engine. An extra $1,595 brings the 3.2L Pentastar V6, and adding Jeep's Active Drive II 4WD system drives the MSRP to $45,095. An example we drove briefly at a Jeep 75th anniversary event in late July also had a $995 technology package of forward collision warning with active braking, advanced brake assist, rain-sensing wipers, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control with stop and go and parallel perpendicular park assist. There was also a $100 wireless charging pad, a single CD player for $250 and a $225 coat of deep cherry red paint, so that the Cherokee Overland we drove priced out to just under $47,000.
