Good news if you're not one of the 500 lucky people chosen to buy a Canadian built Ford GT in the first two years of production. You're going to get another (small) chance to put one in your driveway, as Ford has committed to two more years of production. This will bring the total to 1,000 cars built.
But it's not all sunshine and GTs for everyone. Cars produced in year three are going to people who were waitlisted on the first run of 500, and the last year of production will be re-open the application pile. That means anyone can apply for year four, and the process of choosing buyers will happen all over again. If you want to put your application in for the final 200 cars, you'll have to wait until 2018.
"While we can’t build enough Ford GTs for everyone who has applied, we are going to produce additional vehicles in an effort to satisfy more of our most loyal Ford ambassadors," said Dave Pericak, global director for Ford Performance, speaking about the production increase.
Alternatively, if you want to bypass the line, you could probably send a suitcase full of cash to one of the first 250 buyers and get a GT that way. Otherwise, while the way Ford's allotted the cars has frustrated some, it is probably one of the best ways to dole out the limited production supercar and will help ensure it attains collectible status in years to come.
