Long-Wheelbase Volvo S90 Rumoured for North America

In Canada, a luxury car usually means a full-size sedan like a BMW 7 series or a massive SUV like a Mercedes-Benz GL or Cadillac Escalade. In China, luxury means a long-wheelbase, often on a small or mid-size sedan. That's because chauffeurs are cheap, so the boss wants to be more comfortable while he or she is being driven around. Volvo currently produces long-wheelbase versions of their S60 and will be offering one on the new S90 sedan as well.

Automotive News claims that Volvo China sales boss Yuan Xiaolin told them that the long-wheelbase S90 would be making it to our shores in the near future. While Volvo HQ said that no decision had been made, the statement from Xiaolin at the Chengdu autoshow, combined with the S60 L (eventually) making its way to America, hint that we will likely see the version with the extra legroom here.

Canadian buyers haven't yet shown an affinity toward the longer models, but BMW has been offering a longer 7 for quite some time, and we've seen the extended Jag XJ on and off over the years, so it's not an unprecedented move.
