Honda Confirms Civic Type R

Honda has just confirmed the latest Civic Type R, and since we're already getting the hatch it's based on, this might be the one that is finally coming to our shores. The car they showed off today is still a prototype, but the production version should be pretty much the same when it arrives in late 2017.

The Type R is based on the hatchback Civic, which will be arriving here shortly. Then Honda adds some serious bodywork. The bumper is wider, more aggressive, and there is a deep chin spoiler. The fenders bulge, there's a hood scoop. Carbon fibre side skirts match the bumper and meet the wider fenders. And of course, since this is a hot hatch, there is a massive rear wing. Under hood, expect that scoop to mean a turbocharged engine. Something to make good use of the three tailpipes. The suspension is short on detail, but will be enhanced to make use of the power and maintain the handling that hot Hondas are known for.

Again, this is just the concept, but the production Type R will be unveiled early next year and sales will start in the second half of 2017. Hopefully we will see them shortly after that.
