Thanksgiving marks the beginning of what I call the "charitable" time of year. Extending from Thanksgiving to the end of the year, there is always a drive for donations for those in need. Toys for children; blankets, coats, and mittens for those who need them, and food for those who are hungry. At the holidays people are more giving, and many organizations who make it their goal can help those in need.
The majority of people reading this either have a car or are trying to find a car, either a new one or a replacement for one they already have. But many Canadians are not able to drive or to access transit. And for those people, largely seniors, getting access to the services offered by food banks can be difficult or impossible. That is why groups across the country, in cities and small towns, have set up various meals on wheels programs. Volunteers and (a few) staff will cook meals, but it's largely volunteer drivers who fan out and deliver them to those who can't leave their homes.
So if you can, here are some links to help you find local organizations across the country that could use some driver help, whether in money or time.
