Audi has just launched the latest version of their Q7 full-size SUV, but already they're making changes to give buyers more options. At launch, the only engine choice was a 3.0L V6, but now there is going to be another engine on the menu. Audi is adding the 2.0T to the lineup. If you were hoping for more power, then this might disappoint you, but if you were looking to save some fuel or some money then it's good news.
The engine is the familiar 2.0L turbo four that is shared with much of the rest of Audi's lineup. In this application, it will produce 252 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. Audi claims that the weight savings over the last generation Q7 means that this new one is faster with the four than the old one was with a supercharged V6. It will be linked to the eight-speed automatic from the current 3.0T model, and will have quattro all-wheel drive as standard. Canadian fuel economy numbers are 11.9 L/100 km city, 9.6 highway. That's an improvement of 0.7 city and 0.2 highway versus 3.0T.

The smaller-engined Q7 will be cheaper as well. The 2.0T will start at $61,900 in Komfort trim. That's a savings of $3,300 compared to the V6 3.0T. The top trim for 2.0T will be Progressiv, which at $66,100 is $4,300 less than 3.0T. The top Technik trim will remain 3.0T only. The new engine will still be able to tow a 2,000 kg trailer when properly equipped.
