Kia confirmed in September it would add a turbo option to the Soul compact wagon for 2017, and now we know what you'll have to pay to get it.
The 1.6L turbocharged engine is standard in the top-level SX trim, and its 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque (bonuses of 40 hp and 46 lb-ft over last year's 2.0L) mean a price that climbs $2,000, to $25,995.
SX Turbo models come standard with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, turbo-specific seats, steering wheel, gauge cluster and bumpers and 18-inch wheels.
For $29,995, the SX Turbo Tech model adds xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights and fog lamps, power-folding side mirrors, panoramic sunroof, power front passenger seat, heated rear seats, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert and an eight-inch display infotainment system with navigation.
There's also a $200 increase in the Soul's base price, to $17,395, and the LX model it's attached to is now the only trim available with a manual transmission, with the elimination of the LX+ model. If you want air conditioning and keyless entry, an LX automatic is the cheapest way to get them.
The rest of the news for 2017 is in features available in various permutations of the Soul's LX, EX and SX trims. The EX now gets a heated steering wheel, back-up camera, automatic headlights, piano black interior trim and leather-trimmed steering wheel and shifter. EX+ gains a larger seven-inch display audio system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, passive keyless entry with push-button start and automatic climate control. Last year's SX and SX-L trims are now called EX Premium and EX Tech; the EX Premium gets a panoramic sunroof and power driver's seat.
