Audi Fulfilling Fantasy, Selling Final Fantasy XV R8

Audi and video game publisher Square Enix partnered up for a special R8 design earlier this year. The custom R8 was made to feature in the tie-in movie Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, which was released earlier this year in support of Final Fantasy XV. The movie car was digital, but now Square Enix and Audi are going to let you buy a real one.

And we do mean one. The special R8, named "The Audi R8 Star of Lucis", is going on sale to coincide with the launch of Final Fantasy XV. But they only made one. So Audi Japan is having a raffle to sell it. The lucky winner of that will get the chance to buy the car. It won't come cheap, with a price of 50,000,015 yen ($627,958 CAD).

Audi's description of the car puts it firmly in the game's universe, claiming it was built in celebration of a Royal Warrant from the in-game Kingdom of Lucis, as a 20th birthday present for Prince Noctis. The colour was chosen because it is the royal colour, with this shade dubbed "Ultrossic Black." The incredibly intricate wheels are the emblem of the Kingdom, with sculpted swords and rose petals.

As for real-world specs, this is a V10 R8, with Audi's 610 hp 5.2L V10 and a dual-clutch seven-speed gearbox.

Performance is the same as a standard R8 – the attraction here is the intricate paintwork, the "interior beauty befitting the Royal Family", and (of course) the ability to show off the car from your favourite game in your own real garage.

If you want a shot at the Star of Lucis, you can enter the draw starting November 21.
