Car2go Adding Mercedes-Benz CLA, GLA to Sharing Fleet

Car2go and Mercedes-Benz have just announced that the two will be putting Mercedes CLA and GLA models into Car2go's car sharing fleet. The plan expands on a previous pilot program using B-class vehicles in several cities.

The four-door CLA coupe and GLA compact SUV models will start arriving in the Car2go fleet next month in Toronto and Vancouver. Calgary and Montreal should get the new cars in their fleets later in the year. Car2go says that they expect the Mercedes-Benz vehicles will make up most of their fleet in Canada by the end of 2017. The brand is known now for their fleet of blue and white Smart Fortwo runabouts, but the addition of the bigger and more luxurious Benz models should help make the service appeal to a wider audience.

They new vehicles won't be base models either, with all having Mercedes' 4matic all-wheel drive, navigation, heated seats and satellite radio as well as Apple Carplay and Android Auto integration.

The car sharing service lets members use the fleet for one way or round trip use, with fuel, insurance, and maintenance included in the cost. The cars can also be parked for free at metered spaces in all four Canadian cities that the company operates. The CLA and GLA will cost slightly more than a Smart Fortwo, at around $4 per hour or $30/day more, with prices varying based on the city and other factors.

Car2go says that it is the largest car sharing service in North America with more than 800,000 members and that the new vehicles will give them a fleet of over 5,500 cars.
