Thieves have stolen two truckloads of engines from Jaguar Land Rover's Solihull, UK plant in a very bold theft. The stolen engines are valued at around C$5 million.
According to reports by the Birmingham Mail, the thief or thieves drove into the plant around 10:30 pm on Tuesday, January 31st and hooked a truck up to a trailer full of engines. In what is either a very brazen or very stupid move, the thieves came back later the same night and hooked up to another trailer load and made off with that too.
They drove a truck through a manned security gate, and then back out with the stolen engines each time. The Mail quotes sources at the plant as saying that the theft may have been carried out by just one person and that they were somehow able to obtain the papers needed to get past the gate each time. Each theft took only about six minutes.
If both trailers were full, then up to 80 engines could have been taken from the plant that builds the Range Rover Sport, Land Rover Discovery, Jaguar XE, and F-Pace. It wasn't revealed which types of engines were in the trailers.
News of the theft was confirmed by a Jaguar Land Rover spokesperson, who said that they are working with Police to investigate the theft and are offering a reward for any information leading to the return of the engines.
In the meantime, if anyone offers you a brand new supercharged V6 for a price that seems too good to be true, we'd recommend you contact local police.
