Proving that age doesn't always mean slow driving - or good judgement - a 74-year old Nova Scotia man has been charged by RCMP with stunting, after being clocked at 165 km/h on a provincial highway yesterday afternoon.
The stunting charge in NS is applied to drivers caught doing stunts like racing, donuts, or even jumping a red light to turn left across traffic, but it's most commonly used against drivers caught doing more than 50 km/h over the posted limit.
That's how it applied to the Nova Scotian driver caught doing 165 in a 110 km/h zone on Highway 104, just east of Stellarton, and about 165 km north-east of Halifax. He caught up to an RCMP Eastern Traffic Services officer in an unmarked car who was able to monitor the excessive speed. The driver had three children in the vehicle with him when he was pulled over.
As part of the stunting charge, his license was suspended for seven days and the vehicle was seized. On top of the suspension and seizure, he now faces a fine of $2,422.50.
