Toyota Canada today announced its Prius Prime plug-in hybrid (PHEV) goes on sale in Quebec on June 1 at a starting price of $32,990, or $35,204 "all in" before a $4,000 provincial government rebate.
Quebec was chosen as the 2017 Toyota Prius Prime's first Canadian market as a nod to that province's eager adoption of hybrid plug-in vehicles, according to Toyota, noting that PHEV sales rose 60 per cent there in 2016, indicating a higher rate of adoption than any other part of Canada.
With a fully-charged battery, Natural Resources Canada's energy consumption estimate for the Prius Prime is 1.8 Le/100 km in combined driving, which Toyota says makes it the most fuel-efficient vehicle in Canada, even when lined up against pure electrics. The most daring PHEV drivers may be keen to test Toyota's boast that the car's 1,035-km range is enough to go from Gatineau (just across the border from Ottawa) to Quebec City and back on a single tank of gas.
Prius Prime will be offered in two trims. The first is a base model equipped with navigation, automatic climate control, heated steering wheel and passive keyless entry.
The step up is the Technology trim, which, for $38,565 (or $40,779 all-in in Quebec, before rebates), adds premium audio, wireless smartphone charging, head-up display, intelligent parking assist, automatic wipers, blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert and LED fog lights.
