Infiniti's F1-inspired Project Black S Coming to Montreal for Canadian Grand Prix

Infiniti's Project Black S concept is making its Canadian debut next week. The Project Black S, a collaboration between Infiniti and the Renault Sport Formula 1 team originally shown in Geneva earlier this year, will be on display at the Canadian Grand Prix, in Montreal.

The car will be on display at the Crescent Street Grand Prix Festival, in downtown Montreal, from June 8-10. If you make it out to the festival, Renault Sport's Formula 1 driver Canadian Nicholas Latifi will be signing autographs on Saturday.

The Project Black S takes the 2017 Infiniti Q60 Coupe but moves it a step forward in performance. "Black S" is Infiniti's attempt to develop a line of maximum performance cars. Think of it like Infiniti's answer to BMW's M cars like the 2017 BMW M2, versus their current "Red S", which is more like an M-Sport model like the 2017 BMW M240i.

The car has Formula 1-inspired aerodynamic add-ons, including a huge front splitter and rear diffuser. It also has an F1-style kinetic energy recovery hybrid system. It harvests energy under braking, as well as from the exhaust, much like an F1 car. Infiniti says that this type of system could add 25 percent to the maximum power of the Q60's 3.0L twin-turbo engine. That could mean 500 hp, up 100 over their current top model, the Q60 Red Sport 400. Inifiniti says that this type of dual-hybrid system doesn't exist in any current road car.
