All-New 2018 Chevrolet Traverse $65 More Than Last Year

Chevrolet's biggest crossover, the Traverse, is all-new for 2018. It gets more power, more size, and more tech, but the price goes up by just $65 from last year.

The 2018 Chevrolet Traverse starts at $34,895. The eight-seat crossover gets 50 mm more wheelbase, making for what Chevy calls the roomiest third row in the class with 856 mm of legroom. The whole thing only grows 16 mm, to 5,189 mm. Cargo space is a best-in-class 2,789 L with the second and third rows folded. Leave the seats up and get a still impressive 651 L.

Infotainment is through the latest version of Chevrolet's MyLink system, with a 7.0-inch or 8.0-inch touchscreen. It also includes OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi.

There are two engine choices for 2018. The first is the 3.6L V6 from last year, but it jumps 24 hp to 305 hp total. Behind it is a nine-speed automatic. RS trim comes with an optional 2.0L turbo four that makes 255 hp and 295 lb-ft.

All trims will have a smart slide seat that folds forward even with an empty forward-facing child seat in place. There are USB ports in all three rows, a rear seat reminder, and capless fuel fill. New for 2018 are active noise cancellation and a humidity sensor that automatically sets the climate control to defog the windshield.

Minivans used to battle for who had the most cupholders. It looks like Chevrolet is making the modern minivan replacement's battle about storage spaces. The Traverse has 23 places to put stuff, including a massive centre console and a storage space behind the radio.

LS and LT trims can be had with front or all-wheel drive. LT True North, Premier, and the new High Country top trim are all-wheel drive only.

The 2018 Chevrolet Traverse should go on sale later this year.
