Ford's Raptor engineers were inspired by that other Raptor, the Lockheed Martin one, to build a one-of-a-kind F-22 F-150 Raptor that they auctioned off for charity. They gave it special F-22 inspired looks and a big power boost.
On the outside, the F-22 F-150 (F-172?) Raptor gets some visual cues inspired by the fighter plane. There are red and green mirror caps, like the marker lights on the plane. The special grille has the outline of the jet instead of a Ford badge. There are also massive F-22 logos on the doors, along with carbon fibre fender flares and hood scoops.
When your design target has 35,000 lbs of thrust, the 450 hp and 510 lb-ft from the Raptor truck's standard 3.5L twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 doesn't quite cut it. So Ford added a Whipple intercooler and turned up the power. The EcoBoost V6 now makes 545 hp and 660 lb-ft of torque.
And while it still can't soar through the clouds, it can fly through the desert. The truck gets a new front suspension from Addictive Desert Designs with new bump stops. The Fox shocks have adjustable compression and rebound damping for custom settings. There are six-piston Alcon brake callipers to help get it all stopped.
Other upgrades include a Kicker audio system, a full row of LED KC Hilites off-road lamps, and power-retracting steps.
The F-22 F-150 Raptor was auctioned at Experimental Aircraft Association AirVenture Oshkosh, to support their Gathering of Eagles youth group which encourages youth involvement in flight.
