Jaguar Is Taking the I-Pace SUV Racing in Formula E Support Series

Jaguar is introducing an all-new spec racing series. With an all new race car. But it's not one of the Jag models you're expecting. This is an electric race series, using the Jaguar I-Pace.

The new series and car are called the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy. It's an all-electric one make series that will support the FIA Formula E championship. The I-Pace eTrophy racers will compete on the same weekends as the Formula E racers starting late next year.

A field of up to 20 electric I-Pace racers will be on the grid at the 10 races next season. Jaguar calls the series the world's first production battery electric vehicle race series.

The I-Pace racers will be prepared by Jaguar's Special Vehicle Operations division. They will have a competition ready suspension, roll cage, and aerodynamic tweaks, as well as the usual race car lightening.

The I-Pace is Jaguar's first electric model and is a five-seat crossover. It uses a pair of electric motors to make 400 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. It's expected to be fully revealed sometime next year, becoming available in the second half of the year. Just in time for the I-Pace eTrophy to begin.
