Porsche Announces Boxster and Cayman GTS

Porsche is adding a GTS trim to the 718 Boxster and Cayman lineup. That means more performance, more power, and if you want max performance, it might even be a better value.

The GTS boosts the 2.5L turbo-four from the 718 S models to 365 hp. That's 15 hp more than the S and 35 hp more than the previous generation GTS models. That extra power is routed through a six-speed manual or an optional PDK dual-clutch automatic. Six-speed models come with 309 lb-ft, and PDK models get 8 lb-ft more.

That newfound power comes with the Sport Chrono Package as standard. That pack offers a relocated sport mode dial and a dash-mounted stopwatch. More importantly, it offers launch control and quicker shifting for the PDK. The GTS also gets torque vectoring, a mechanical limited slip rear differential, and Porsche Active Suspension Management body control. All of those are optional on S models, which means buyers get some pricey S options included in the GTS as standard. In this case, more power and more performance actually cost less.

With the extra power and launch control, the GTS can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds, reaching a top speed of 290 km/h.

To let you know you're looking at a GTS, there is a new Sport Design front spoiler. The front lights are black-tinted as are the tail lights, rear apron, and Porsche logos. The wheels are special 20-inch black alloys.

The GTS models have sports seats with Alcantara centres. The rest of the interior gets Alcantara on the wheel, console, and armrests. Porsche has also added a Track Precision App that lets drivers record and analyse their driving via a smartphone app.

The 718 GTS Boxster and Cayman models are available to order now, starting from $90,600 for the Cayman and $93,000 for the Boxster. They should arrive at dealers by the end of the year.
