Road-Focused Husqvarna Launched in Europe

Husqvarna has announced a production version of its road-focused 701 cc streetfighter at EICMA. It's a step into unfamiliar territory for the iconic Swedish mark, long revered for making extreme and aggressive off-road rockets.

The Vitpilen 701 uses the same power train as the venerable Husqvarna 701 Enduro, good for 75 hp and 53 lb-ft of torque from it's single-cylinder four stroke.

Front and rear 17-inch wheels are matched with WP suspension. A monoshock out back and 43 mm upside-down forks up front. Both allow up to 135 mm of suspension travel.

True to Husqvarna's trail and enduro routes, the Vitpilen is tall, with a seat height of 830 inseam-savaging milimetres. A 12L fuel tank and trellis frame keep things narrow. At only 157 kg, and with a 1,434 mm wheelbase, you can assume the Vitpilen will be a scalpel.

Switchable Bosch ABS, a slipper clutch and fly-by-wire throttle are the technical highlights, and braking duties are handled by a single, 320 mm disc up front with a 240 mm unit out back.

The Vitpilen will be launched in Canada some time in 2018.
