Canada’s most affordable racing series will race on until at least 2020.
Nissan Canada has confirmed that its homegrown Micra Cup series, which allows competitors to buy a fully race-ready car for $20,000, has been renewed for another three seasons. The announcement was made at the annual awards gala on Saturday evening in Saint-Marc-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, by President Joni Paiva and series promoter Jacques Deshaies.
Launched in 2015, the Nissan Micra Cup is contested using identical base Nissan Micra racecars that are largely stock – including the factory-installed engine and manual transmission – apart from a stripped-down interior, a roll cage, a race-spec seat, and NISMO performance suspension parts. Its calendar was initially centred exclusively in Quebec and expanded into Ontario ahead of the 2016 season.
On average, 25 cars have competed for the title in each of the past three years with drivers from 18 to 64 years-old including four women, five international drivers, and representatives from 12 Nissan dealerships.

The 2018 Nissan Micra Cup calendar will be announced later in the off-season.
