Canadians Wishing for SUVs Most From Santa, Finds Survey

Santa better have a really big bag if he is going to fulfill these Canadian wishes. The type of vehicle most Canadians want this Christmas is, perhaps not surprisingly, an SUV, according to a national survey conducted by DesRosiers Automotive Consultants.

At 23.8 per cent, it’s the fourth consecutive year that SUVs top the list. That result is pretty reflective of the Canadian automotive landscape, where crossovers and SUVs are increasingly popular.

Manitoba and Saskatchewan lead the way for SUVs with 35.5 per cent of people from those regions wanting a light truck.

What is a bit surprising, perhaps, is what came in second on the wish list: Electric cars, at 18 per cent. That represents a major increase over the 11.3 per cent from last year’s survey.

Two provinces bucked the national trend by favouring EVs most, however. In Quebec, 25.1 per cent of consumers were hoping for a green Christmas, with British Columbia next at 21.3 per cent.

Nationally, pickup trucks came in at 13.3 per cent and exotic cars at 12.6 per cent. Sedans (9.9 per cent), small economy cars (7.7 per cent) and minivans were at the bottom of the list, with the minivan coming in dead last at 5.6 per cent.
