Volvo is turning over a new leaf with the XC40 compact crossover. So they turned the first one in Canada over to a new Leaf.
Volvo's first subcompact crossover was unveiled in Canada yesterday in R-Design trim at the Toronto Auto Show. On hand to pull off the fabric was Toronto Maple Leafs centre William Nylander. Alexander Lvovich, Managing Director of Volvo Canada, named him the first XC40 driver in Canada and handed Nylander the keys before the pair unveiled the crossover.
Nylander, playing in his second full season with the Leafs, is a Volvo brand ambassador. Nylander was born in Calgary, but his father was Swedish and William plays for the Swedish national team in international hockey events.
Canada gets the T5 version of the XC40 in Momentum and R-Design trims. That means a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 250 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. The XC40 wears Volvo's new bold styling outside and is loaded with active safety features and cargo space on the inside.
The Volvo XC40 will start at $39,500, and will arrive in showrooms this spring as a 2019 model.
Volvo also confirmed that the company's new all-inclusive subscription service will come to Canada in 2018. Care by Volvo bundles the vehicle cost, tax, insurance, and other fees into one no-haggle payment. The customer gets a new car every 24 months under the plan.
