Kia is updating the midsize Sorento crossover for 2019 with more seven-seat options, a new transmission, and new looks. Pricing on base models gets a slight cut, with top trims seeing slight increases. Oh, and there's a diesel coming.
The big change under the skin is a new eight-speed automatic offered on V6 models. It replaces the six-speed previously offered and Kia says it will improve the fuel economy and driving experience. Gone from the lineup are the models using the 2.0L turbocharged four. That's because a new diesel is coming, although Kia didn't say when exactly it would be arriving. For now, only the 2.4L four that makes 185 hp and the 3.3L 290 hp V6 continue.
Outside, the Sorento gets refreshed styling that adds thinner headlights, a new grille, a new tailgate, and new wheels. Inside, the cabin has a new cluster with better graphics and an upgraded navigation system that offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Kia has also added new active safety features like lane keep assist and driver attention alert to the options list. A new EX 2.4L trim will arrive later this summer, which will make the third-row of seating available on four-cylinder models.
The 2019 Sorento will arrive at dealers this week.
