Nissan Hopes You'll Get a Kick out of the Kicks

Nissan's latest small crossover is arriving soon. The all-new Kicks will start under $18,000.

The Kicks is Nissan's sixth SUV. The subcompact crossover will slot-in under the new Qashqai and take the place of the Juke. It brings more cool styling to the segment and offers a choice of bright colours and two-tone roof options.

Under the hood of the Kicks is a 1.6L four that makes 125 hp and 115 lb-ft of torque. It's linked to a CVT and drives only the front wheels. Nissan has said that all-wheel drive would add too much to the cost and weight of the vehicle. It's not alone, though. The similarly-sized and funky Toyota C-HR is also front-drive only. The Kicks is rated for 6.6 L/100 km highway.

The Kicks will come in three trim levels, S, SV, and SR. All will get a 7.0-inch infotainment system mounted in the dash with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The SR will add a Bose audio system with speakers in the driver's seat headrest.

Nissan is also making their around view monitor bird's eye view camera system available, helping make a small vehicle even easier to park. Emergency braking is standard on all trims, with the SR adding blind spot warnings and rear cross traffic alert.

The 2018 Nissan Kicks is expected to go on sale in June.
