2019 Subaru WRX: New Tech, Same Base Price

Subaru is adding new tech to the WRX and WRX STI, with new infotainment systems. And the STI is getting more power. But the starting price isn't changing for 2019.

The Subaru WRX STI is getting a power boost for 2019 from its 2.5L turbo boxer four. It's not a big boost, but a new air intake and high-flow exhaust mean five more ponies for a total of 310, along with 290 lb-ft of torque. New programming for the ECU and stronger pistons contribute to the increase. The six-speed manual gets a new third gear to help improve acceleration. Power is still sent through a driver controlled centre diff and all-wheel drive with torque vectoring.

The WRX stays the same under the hood, with the 2.0L four making 268 hp and 258 lb-ft. But the WRX still gets some changes. Like new 6.5 and 7.0-inch infotainment system touchscreens. They now include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as a pair of USB ports. The new screens are in the WRX and the WRX STI models. Both models got a facelift last year with a new suspension tune, but still use the platform of the previous-generation Impreza.
