Hyundai Launches Kona Iron Man Edition

UPDATE: "There currently aren’t any plans to offer the Kona Iron Man Edition in the Canadian market," said Jean-François Taylor, product public relations specialist with Hyundai Canada.

The latest from Hyundai is a Kona with a little more style. It's the Iron Man edition, making its debut at San Diego Comic-Con 2018.

The Kona Iron Man took centre stage at Marvel's Comic-Con booth. Marvel has a long history of product tie-ins for its films, including Lexus for Black Panther, Audi for Spider-Man and the earlier Iron Man films, and has worked with Hyundai for an Ant-Man and Veloster tie-in. This Kona is one of the few to make it to market as a special edition.

It doesn't have a J.A.R.V.I.S. in place of Siri and the Google assistant, but it does have some Tony Stark flourishes. Like special daytime running lights that are designed to mimic the eye shape of the Iron Man suit. There's also an Iron Man mask motif on the roof, a special V-shaped hood garnish, and fender badging. The paint is an exclusive matte grey with Iron Man red for the roof and door sills.

Hyundai has also given it Stark Industries badges on the front fascia and rear doors, applied Iron Man engraving to the headlight surfaces, and has special 18-inch wheels with Iron Man mask logos.

Inside, Tony Stark's signature is on the instrument panel along with an Iron Man shift lever. There's also a cool head-up display with Iron Man graphics and a special custom seat design. Sadly, there is no Arc Reactor for an unlimited range Kona Electric, and no, there is no weapons system.

Hyundai says the Iron Man Kona will be available through a limited global production run, with the cars built to order and arriving in the first quarter of 2019. Hyundai Canada says there are no plans now to sell the Kona Iron Man edition in this country.
