The Arc Vector is a new electric motorcycle that comes with haptic gear and a head-up display helmet. And while that sounds like it could be vapourware, this one is now funded by Jaguar Land Rover.
The Vector's electric motor delivers 138 hp along with 63 lb-ft of torque. While those aren't big figures by car standards, this electric bike weighs just 220 kg. That means 0-100 km/h in three seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h. Thanks to a 16.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, Arc claims a "realistic range" of around 320 km in urban use, and 195 on the highway.
On the NEDC urban drive cycle, the range figure most often quoted in Euro manufacturer press materials, the company said it achieved a 586 km range. Charging, via a CCS-compliant fast-charger, takes just 30 minutes.
To put some tech into the rider, not just the bike, the Vector has some cool new features. Like a head-up display projected onto the rider's visor. It projects speedo and navigation data into the rider's field of view. Their WiFi-enabled helmet also includes an integrated rear-facing camera. Unlike current in-helmet HUD tech, the company says that this system won't require the rider to re-focus their eyes to read it.
Even the armour is integrated with the bike. The bespoke jacket has haptic feedback sensors that can vibrate different places to advise of hazards or provide dynamic feedback. A Euphoric mode even uses the jacket to fake bass response from the rider's choice of music. The jacket is made by Knox. Arc calls it "the most technically-advanced clothing ever rendered."
The Vector uses a carbon fibre monocoque frame. The suspension sports Ohlins dampers and brakes are from Brembo and include ABS.
Only 399 are planned for construction. That corresponds to the voltage of the battery pack. Pricing starts from £90,000 (CAD $154,400), which includes the helmet and jacket.
Arc is based in Coventry, England. The company was started by Mark Truman, who formerly headed Jaguar Land Rover's White Space innovation lab. Along with the reveal of the Vector at the Milan motorcycle show this week, Jaguar Land Rover's venture capital fund InMotion Ventures announced that it would be making an investment into the company.
