Chevrolet Launches Drivers Series Corvettes, But They're Probably Not What You're Thinking

Chevrolet has just launched a quartet of new special edition Corvettes. The Drivers Series cars, revealed at the Rolex 24 at Daytona are based on the Grand Sport model. But if you're wondering about that missing apostrophe in the name, then there's something you should know. This isn't a special edition for drivers, it's one that was created with the help of four of the team's racing drivers.

That's right. Four cars, each with a colour scheme picked by one of the team's drivers. “Each driver worked with Chevrolet designers on the graphics for their respective edition, giving the cars distinctly personalized appearances,” said Chevrolet marketing director Steve Majoros.

So which four drivers got the nod and what did they choose? The first is the Tommy Milner Edition. Milner has been with Corvette racing since 2011, and his trophy case includes a pair of 24 Hours of Le Mans wins with the team. The car gets Elkhart Lake Blue paint with silver stripes and red fender hash marks.

Oliver Gavin has been with the team since way back in 2002. He has five class wins at Le Mans with Corvette. His car is Shadow Grey with a Torch Red center stripe and hash marks.

Jan Magnussen's 15 years with Corvette racing and big pile of wins give him a special edition too. Arctic White with Crystal Red stripes and grey hash marks. Finally, Antonia Garcia gets what might be the coolest. Not just because of the Racing Yellow paint with black stripe, but because that stripe gets the Jake Skull in it, the Corvette Racing logo since 2005.

Three of the four get a black interior, but Gavin's car gets Adrenaline Red. They all wear black wheels with a red stripe and red brake calipers.

The Drivers Series comes only as a Grand Sport, in 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT trims. That means they get that model's 6.2L dry-sump V8, magnetic ride control, electronic limited slip, and wider body with 10-inch wide wheels in the front and 12-inches in the rear. The Z07 pack with carbon brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires is available. The cars will also have a driver-specific interior plaque along with some other unnamed by Chevrolet trim details.

So you can pick your favourite driver and get their colour scheme. Or, and this is the one Chevrolet probably wants you to choose, get all four. The cars will be available to order later this year, with pricing to follow. The 24 at Daytona runs this Saturday and into Sunday.
