Honda has just priced its latest crossover: the 2019 five-seat Passport mid-size SUV arrives at dealers next month, starting from just under $42,000.
The Passport comes to a new segment for Honda, even if it is an old name for the brand. The two-row crossover slots into the space between the CR-V and the Pilot, though it's definitely closer to the three-row Pilot. It's 152 mm shorter than its big brother, at 4839 mm long, but the same 2296 mm wide.
It uses the same 3.5L V6 as the Pilot, making 280 hp. It also has standard all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic. Honda says it offers a more personal and rugged character. And that's the point of this new SUV, really. To add some style for drivers who don't need a third row and the cargo space that goes with it. Much like the Range Rover Sport or the upcoming Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport.
Despite being a little smaller than the Pilot, the Passport will cost a little more to get stamped. Starting out that is. The Passport's base trim is the Sport, one not offered in the Pilot. Step up to EX-L or Touring, and the Passport becomes cheaper than a similarly equipped Pilot, by up to $3,500.
Honda hasn't detailed exactly what features come with which trim inside the new crossover, but it will have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard on an 8.0-inch infotainment system. Honda is also planning to offer a range of outdoor and cargo accessories for gear like bikes and snowboards.
The 2019 Honda Passport is slated to arrive at dealers March 15th.
