Spanning five halls of the International Centre and covering more than 400,000 square feet, The Toronto Spring Camping and RV Show is the largest show of its kind in Canada. There was much to see and do regardless of your interest or budget. We attended the show and noticed a few ongoing or emerging trends for 2019 we thought we’d share.
Bigger Doesn’t Mean Better
We know full well that some consumers just want a truck regardless of whether they will ever make use of its utility for hauling or towing. If you do a little research, you’d be surprised to discover what you can tow with. One such display demonstrated a large Airstream trailer hooked up to a Chrysler 300 sedan which was more than up to the task. If you still want a truck, we won’t stand in your way, but don’t let that stop you from getting into the RV lifestyle.
More Luxury, Comfort and Convenience:
Mirroring many other industries, recreational vehicles have consistently been advancing with the level of comfort, convenience and technology available. Class A motorhomes and fifth wheel units are offering entertainment systems and electric fireplaces, solar panels, Wifi and Bluetooth, automated in-floor heating systems, smart audio setups and command systems that integrate into smart phone apps. We’re also seeing full-size stainless-steel RV fridges, breakfast bars and even wine fridges letting you travel with all the comforts of home.
Back to Basics
On the opposite end of the spectrum, many companies are offering lighter, more elementary options like the SylvanSport GO for those who want to keep things simple. While some people want to constantly be connected, others are looking to escape screen time and get back in touch with nature.
Experience Instead of Ownership
Gone are the days where the only options for getting into the RV lifestyle were to rent or buy. Companies like Uber, Turo and AirBnB have revolutionized the way people travel, which is now entering the recreational vehicle space with companies like RVezy giving Canadians an option to match with existing owners or rent out their own RVs.
Retro is Back…Again
The distinctive silhouette of Airstream’s polished aluminum travel trailers is among the most iconic styles in history and remain unchanged outside while providing modernised interiors. Vintage Cruiser by Gulf Stream is also looking to attract buyers with classic retro styling that incorporate contemporary features and amenities.
