2020 Silverado 1500 Gets More Engine Choices, Radar Love

Chevrolet is giving the Silverado some updates for 2020, just a year after the all-new truck was launched. There's more availability for the 10-speed auto, more trims that can get the 6.2 L V8, and more features to make driving (and towing) easier.

The Silverado offered four powertrains for 2019, ranging from a turbo four-cylinder to a 6.2 L V8. For 2020, the 3.0 L Duramax inline-six turbodiesel arrives. It was originally scheduled for the 2019 model year but got pushed back to 2020. Available on LT, RST, LTZ, and High Country trucks, it will offer 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.

Buyers wanting the most power from a gas engine can opt for the 6.2 L V8 that offers 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. It will be offered with a 10-speed auto, expanded from LTZ and High Country trim levels to the options list for LT and RST models. There's also a new performance package that comes with an air intake and cat-back exhaust that boosts power to 435 hp and 469 lb-ft.

The 5.3 L and 10-speed automatic combination is now standard on the LT Trail Boss and an option on High Country. Chevy says it offers improved efficiency and smoother shifting.

In the cabin, the 2020 Silverado 1500 gets the high-tech trailering system from the HD trucks as an option. It comes with 15 camera views including an accessory camera that lets the driver "see through" their trailer. Making it easier to drive, reverse, and park. The Silverado can also be equipped with an iN Command control system that works through the myChevrolet mobile app or the infotainment system and allows users to monitor and control functions (like water levels and AC) in their compatible trailer.

Finally, the Silverado 1500 adds adaptive cruise control for 2020. The system can bring the truck to a complete stop. It's available on LT, LTZ, and High Country. The 2020 Silverado 1500 should arrive later this year.
