The Ontario Society for the Protection of Animals (OSPCA) today rolled out a new mobile vet clinic it says will help it better serve pet owners across the province.
Funded in part by Pet Valu's Giving Back Project, the mobile animal wellness services clinic is a 38-foot trailer that houses two surgical tables and enough space for 20 to 30 spay/neuter procedures every day.
The OSPCA says the facility is part of the organization's larger effort to educate dog and cat owners about the importance of spay/neuter operations to combat pet overpopulation.
While the trailer's services are available to any dog or cat owner, OPSCA says its aim is to "help under served people ... (and) disadvantaged pet owners." The organization says it will also partner with towns and cities that already have an overabundance of stray and feral cats.
Prices for spay and neuter procedures start at $70 for cats and $110 for dogs, though the cost varies based on the breed and size of dog. Vaccine treatments are $20 and microchipping is $27.
The OSPCA's nonprofit status means its spay/neuter clinics are a break-even proposition, so the organization hopes to raise $65,000 to stock the trailer with medical supplies and cover operational costs. Pembroke is the mobile clinic's first stop on June 25th and 26th. It will be in Cornwall on July 9th and 10th, in Brockville July 23rd and 24th and Peterborough on August 16th and 17th. More details are available here.
