Auto parts retailer Canadian Tire has revealed that the forthcoming 2021 Ford Bronco SUV will use the brand's 2.3L Ecoboost four-cylinder engine.
Navigate to the store's online auto parts search function and "2021 Ford Truck Bronco" is one of the choices in the vehicle pull-down menu. Next to the truck's name is "4-140 2.3L DOHC," indicating a DOHC (double overhead cam) four-cylinder engine of 140 cubic inches, or 2.3L.
Those specs, of course, belong to the Ecoboost four-cylinder that powers the new Ford Ranger with 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.
The website Off-Road.com made the discovery when one of its contributors found the Bronco in Canadian Tire's in-store parts lookup console, and then in its online search function.
Ford made the Bronco's comeback official in early 2017 at the Detroit auto show, promising a reboot of the mid-size SUV in 2020 as a 2021 model. The automaker hasn't said much about it since, though to be fair it hasn't had to, thanks to the apparent enthusiasm of Ford truck fans.
So far, we have little idea what the Bronco will look like aside from a rendering produced by a discussion forum website. Ford's sole teaser image shows a boxy truck (which might as well be a Jeep Wrangler) under a muddy tarp. We expect the company will at least roll out a concept later this year at the Los Angeles auto show; the revamped Detroit show, set for its summer debut about a year from now, seems too far off (save, perhaps, for the production model's reveal) given the promised timing for the new truck.
