Ford Bringing Off-Road Capability to 2020 Super Duty Tremor

Ford has just announced a new off-road package for the F-Series Super Duty. The F-Series Super Duty Tremor offers an off-road package that adds the ability to play in the rocks and dirt once the towing is done for the day. Bigger tires, suspension upgrades, and new cosmetic features. We suspect this one is Burt Gummer approved.

“A growing number of Super Duty customers use their trucks for more than work," said Todd Eckert, Ford truck group marketing manager. "They’re fishing, camping and towing boats on weekends and they go off-road, so we designed this truck specifically for them – more ground clearance, bigger shocks, bigger tires and more off-road capability. Tremor balances what customers demand in terms of work with what they need in the great outdoors.”

The off-road upgrades begin with 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires. Ford calls them the largest diameter tire available on an HD pickup. They're mounted on 18-inch wheels with a black finish. Combine that improved approach and departure angles, a 2.0-inch front lift and a shorter front air dam, and you get 274 mm of ground clearance which Ford says is best in class. There's also the ability to ford 838 mm of water.

Those big tires are controlled by progressive-rate springs that can handle towing as well as control the body over rocks. The rear stabilizer bar is tuned to give less head toss when you're jumping from rock to rock. The shocks are new twin-tube dampers with more oil to keep them from overheating. There's an internal hydraulic rebound to soften the hardest hits.

Helping the Tremor keep traction when you're running from graboids are a locking rear diff with shift on the fly engagement and a Dana limited-slip front diff.

Rounding out the package are extended axle vent tubes, the skid plates of the FX4, and off-road running boards designed to protect the bottom of the cab.

The Tremor will also have Trail Control, an off-road cruise control mode. The package will be available on 7.3L gas and 6.7L diesel trucks, in F-250 and F-350, on XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum trucks. They'll arrive when the 2020 Super Duty launches later this year.
