Subaru Gives 2020 Forester More Standard Tech, Slight Price Hike

Subaru has just priced the Forester for 2020. It gets an enhanced version of the automaker's active safety suite and a rear seat reminder across the board along with some small feature changes. And a slight price hike to go with the extra stuff.

Subaru's Forester was all-new last year. Built on the automaker's latest platform and with the latest 182 hp and 176 lb-ft 2.5L boxer-four engine. For 2020, all Foresters get Subaru's EyeSight active safety suite. The system, which includes adaptive cruise, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and lead vehicle start alert, now gets lane-centering assist. Last year, it was only available starting on the $31,795 Convenience with EyeSight. So making it available on the $28,695 ($700 more than last year) base model is more of a price cut for drivers who want the system. Also new is the rear seat reminder that adds audio and visual alerts to make sure you check the back seat before getting out.

The base Forester comes with X-Mode off-road mode and SI-Drive. Plus automatic stop-start for fuel economy. It has LED lights, tinted rear glass, and a 6.5-inch infotainment system that comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Subaru's own Starlink phone integration. Forester Convenience adds 17-inch alloys, 10-way power driver seat, dual-zone climate control, and a rear spoiler. New this year is Subaru Starlink Connected which adds 4G LTE connectivity, live collision and emergency service, and smartphone-enabled features like remote start, locking, and boundary or curfew limits. It comes with a three-year trial.

Forester Touring adds high-beam assist, a glass sunroof, and power tailgate. New for 2020, Touring gets rear/side vehicle detection, reclining rear seats, and vents and USB ports for rear passengers. Limited has leather seats, with heating for the rear, heated wheel, and a nine-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. Finally, Premier adds DriverFocus distraction mitigation monitoring, 18-inch alloys, special brown leather, and a power passenger seat. All Foresters get a CVT and all-wheel drive.

The 2020 Subaru Forester will arrive at dealers next month.
