Electrify Canada has chosen the Toronto Premium Outlets shopping mall as the location for its first public electric vehicle charging station in Canada, which will open later this month.
The EV charger is the first of 32 of its kind that Electrify Canada plans to build across the country.
Electrify Canada is the Canadian arm of Electrify America, a Volkswagen-owned subsidiary established to help promote the adoption of electric vehicle technology.
As promised in previous announcements, the Toronto Premium Outlets charging station supports CCS and CHAdeMO charging ports and will deliver electricity at up to 350 kW to vehicles that can handle that rate. At that top power level, every minute of charging could add 30 km of range to the car's battery.
Each of Electrify's charging stations will have a 15-inch touchscreen interface and a credit card reader for universal access by all EV drivers.
Electrify has not announced specific locations for the rest of its charging stations, but it has previously said they will be built in Alberta, Ontario and Quebec at sites near major highways and metropolitan areas. The Toronto Premium Outlets charger is close to Ontario's Highway 401 at the Trafalgar Road exit and the Highway 401/Highway 407 interchange.
Among Electrify's other promises is to be the first EV charging network to implement Plug&Charge, an ISO standard that will allow drivers to pay for charging simply by plugging their vehicles in, without the need for a credit card or smartphone app.
