Watch: Dashcam Catches Dangerous Highway Driving

We're no strangers to bad driving on dashcam videos, which means it takes a particularly bad bit of driving to make us wince. This is one of those. A BMW driver decides to make a move from collector to express lanes not just a little bit late, but far, far too late for safety.

The clip was posted to TorontoDriving on Reddit. It shows a camera car following a Subaru on the 401 Westbound just before Allen Road. The camera car and the Subaru are headed for the Express lanes and all seems well.

Suddenly, from not one but two lanes over, a BMW X5 driver decides that they absolutely, positively need to be in the Express lanes right darn now.

They nearly take out the Subaru and they do hit the hazard sign, just centimetres from hitting the fixed steel barrier that divides the two roadways. It's not even a missed exit, they could easily have joined the Express lanes just a short distance down the highway and possibly lost 20 seconds of time.

Instead, they nearly lost everything with a dangerous manœuvre.

The video's poster says that the BMW driver didn't escape completely unscathed. Instead, the user reports that the X5 started leaking fluid later down the road. Which is still remarkably fortunate for a last-second turn that could have ended much worse for the BMW driver and the Subaru that was nearly caught up in the madness.
