Jaguar is giving the F-Type coupe a refresh for 2021 that makes the sports car sleeker, bolder, and sharper. More than just updated styling, the now top-spec F-Type's bite gets a little more fierce, and it has new tech fitted to make it more convenient.
The styling doesn't seem massively changed, but just about every panel is revised from the previous car. It starts with a larger grille with a new mesh finish that's flanked by headlights that have been narrowed, flattened, and fitted with LEDs. The new front bumper gets different graphics depending on the trim level, and the hood has new vents.
At the side, the fender vents get new Jaguar Leaper detailing, and move around to the back for taillights that have gotten a nip and tuck just like the one the headlights received. It's a look that's still F-Type, but it's also more in line with the automaker's other offerings.
Inside, it's restyled with new materials and a new 12.3-inch configurable digital dash cluster. The Touch Pro infotainment system operates on a 10.0-inch display that has support for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, plus the ability to get over the air updates. New stitch patterns have been added as have new Est.1935 logos on the console, glovebox release, and seatbelt guides to remind you when Jaguar began.
This year's engine choices include the 296-hp 2.0L turbo-four and a 3.0L supercharged V6 making 380 hp just like last year. But the F-Type R sees an extra 25 hp from its V8 to make 575 total, same as the last-gen SVR, making this one a bit more fierce. No new SVR has been announced, though we expect one down the line. F-Type R models get a revised version of the eight-speed automatic that's in all the cars that Jaguar says takes lessons from the XE SV Project 8, giving it even faster gear changes. All of the engines will also get an active exhaust system that can switch from loud to louder, and Jag says they'll still have plenty of the F-Type's signature crackle and pop. V8 versions get a Quiet Start mode to try and help keep your neighbours happy.
Jaguar has updated the R's suspension with new adaptive dampers, springs, anti-roll bars, and other stiffened components to help match the extra power.
For the first year of release, an F-Type First Edition will be available, based on the R-Dynamic trim and adding Dorchester Grey exterior trim, five-spoke 20-inch wheels, and a choice of black, grey, or white paint. Inside, the Firsts will have seats in ebony with light stitching or Mars with red stitches along with an Alcantara-wrapped cluster, engine spin center console trim, and first edition logo. The 2021 F-Type is available to order now and set for delivery in the spring starting from $73,000.
