Our editors are all cooped up in their homes and their minds are starting to wander, daydreaming about the future when we can go outside again and enjoy all the new cars that are coming out soon.
Here are the cars our editors are the most excited for.
Andy Lin, Production Editor: Genesis GV80
The Genesis GV80 recently debuted and a rift formed between our editors. The Korean automaker’s first SUV has a daring design and we were split on whether or not we liked it.
“To be honest, I was a lot more excited about it until I saw the headlights,” Andy says. Still, our production editor has even suggested that his future in-laws consider one to replace their Lexus RX, the OG luxury crossover.
“The Genesis GV80 is the vehicle we've been waiting for from Hyundai's luxury marque: an SUV that combines the brand's technological innovation with traditional premium appointments, wrapped up in a package that is sure to turn heads. All at a sensible price point," he said.
Although it’s not coming to Canada, Andy is also excited for the Honda Urban EV because, “I need more cute cars in my life.”
Dan Ilika, Road Test Editor: Audi RS 6
We think a lot of automotive enthusiasts are excited for the Audi RS 6, the ultimate “do-it-all” car: it looks sharp, it’s fast as hell, and it can still hold all your people and stuff comfortably. “There’s little in the world of cars that’s cooler than sticking an outrageous engine where it doesn’t belong,” Dan says. “As amazing as the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and its 707-hp engine is for that exact reason, there’s something even more maniacal about a station wagon that can run from a standing start to 100 km/h in about 3.5 seconds. Bring on the madness, I say!”
The upcoming Audi RS 6 is a great answer for the hypothetical question we always find ourselves asking each other: “If you won the lottery but could only have one car, what would it be?”
Dustin Woods, Associate Editor: Chevrolet Corvette Z06
"As something of a traditionalist (some may say Luddite), I believe there are certain things about sports cars that should remain pure and unchanged. For instance, they should have (or at the very least offer) a manual transmission. Also, a Corvette’s engine should be in the front. It’s been this way since 1953 and I see no reason to change now. Reluctant as I may be to accept the new mid-engined eighth-generation (C8) Corvette, it is also an impressive machine that has upped the ante on what Chevrolet’s performance car is capable of. It looks incredible and it sounds magnificent.
What is even more exciting to me is the prospect of the stripped-down high-revving Z06 expected to arrive sometime next year. The 5.5L V8 is said to feature a flat-plane-crankshaft and a lofty redline. In typical Z06 fashion, it will also benefit from wider rubber, more robust brakes, recalibrated suspension tuning and even active aerodynamics for the first time on a Corvette. The future of performance cars may not include three pedals, but it isn’t all doom and gloom either."
Jodi Lai, Editor in Chief: Ford Bronco
The Ford Bronco, the Jeep Wrangler competitor that hasn’t been officially unveiled yet, gets me excited for a few reasons. Although I’m tired of waiting and just want them to debut the SUV already, I love boxy SUVs and get excited any time one makes it to our market, especially if, like the Bronco, it’s available as a stubby two-door model. I also enjoy off-roading more than I enjoy driving on the track, so that’s why I haven’t picked some sports car to get hyped about.
I like the idea of the Ford Bronco because it will be like a Land Rover Defender for people who aren’t making Land Rover dollars. It will also be a hell of a lot cheaper than a Mercedes G-Wagen and I like the fact that they will initially be less common than Wranglers, which are everywhere. If the Bronco ends up looking as boxy and retro as the spy photos and teaser renderings that have been floating around might indicate, sign me up.
The 2021 Ford Bronco will debut officially in the near future.
