The 2021 Mercedes-AMG E63 S 4Matic+ Sedan and Wagon have been refreshed and now look like bona fide members of the AMG family. With the grille style that first appeared on the AMG GT, the E63 Sedan and Wagon now look more aggressive and boast improved aerodynamics. New headlights have also been added, and wider wheel arches round out the transformation to accommodate the slightly wider track width and larger wheels on the front axle.
The rear end also gets some tweaks to enhance aerodynamics, but the flatter taillights that now extend to the trunk are the biggest difference.
Both the E63 Sedan and Wagon also get new, more aerodynamic 20-inch wheels as standard, and three new colours have been added to the options. The Brilliant Blue Magno colour used to be exclusive to the AMG GT lineup, but will now be offered on 63-series E-Classes. A new AMG Night Package adds gloss black accents throughout and the option to add some carbon fibre elements.
Inside, a new AMG-exclusive upholstery combination with contrast yellow stitching has been made available. The steering wheel has also been updated and now looks almost asymmetrical with added twin spokes on each side to house the touch-capacitive buttons. The upper spokes control the instrument cluster and infotainment system, while the lower spokes control the adaptive cruise control and media/phone functions. The paddle shifters have also been made larger and moved further down.
As always, the E63s come standard with Mercedes’ digital assistant that you can summon by saying “Hey Mercedes.” The system recognizes natural language well and can be used to control many of the car’s functions (like changing the radio station or controlling the HVAC system) or to communicate and get information like the weather.
The E63 S 4Matic+ has permanent all-wheel drive with variable torque distribution, a Drift Mode, and is powered by a hand-built twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 that pumps out 603 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. The V8 is mated to a nine-speed transmission that helps get the topline E-Class sedan to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds (the wagon does the sprint in 3.5 seconds).
The 2021 Mercedes-AMG E63 S 4Matic+ Sedan and Wagon are expected to arrive in Canada in early 2021.
